In 1101, the King of Munster, <a title=\"Muirchertach Ua Briain\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Muirchertach_Ua_Briain\" target=\"_blank\">Muirchertach Ua Briain<\/a> donated his fortress on the Rock to the <a title=\"History of Roman Catholicism in Ireland\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/History_of_Christianity_in_Ireland\">Church<\/a>. The picturesque complex has a character of its own and is one of the most remarkable collections of <a title=\"Celtic art\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Celtic_art\" target=\"_blank\">Celtic art<\/a> and <a title=\"Medieval architecture\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Medieval_architecture\">medieval architecture<\/a> to be found anywhere in Europe. Few remnants of the early structures survive; the majority of buildings on the current site date from the 12th and 13th centuries.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Rock of Cashel was a breathtaking site.
