After brunch we drove through the village that the workers who work there live in to go to Lake Panic. It was so quaint seeing warthog digging up flowers in someone’s front yard. No matter where you live, you have some pests in your yard.
Lake Panic is a very popular bird watching spot. It was so very quiet there.

We stopped at Skukuza for brunch. This is the largest and one of the oldest rest camps in the park.
We sat on the deck by the river and had some really good food.

The ubiquitous Impala. They are eveywhere! We called them the Chicken of the Park.
They are also known as the McDonalds of the park since not only are they fast food, but they also have a M on their behinds.
Impala is very interesting because pregnant Impala can delay the birth until it has rained.

We witnessed a very rare and unusual sighting: a giraffe chewing on bone. This behaviour is called ‘osteophagy’ and giraffe would do this if they need calcium.
What made this sighting even rarer was the fact that this giraffe was chewing bones of… another giraffe!!!

On our early morning drive we came across a pride of 8 lions relaxing in the road. It looked like they were all stuffed from a great meal earlier. One might even have still been munching on something…

And another day is done. Catching the last rays of sunshine in the open, and then back to the rest camp for the evening braai. Candlelight and fire and lots of really good wine. That is the way to do it!
On our afternoon sunset drive, we came across these two Rhinos. They are so adorable.

We checked into our next Rest Camp, called ‘Berg en Dal’, which directly translates to mountain and valley. It is in a very hilly area of the park.
Here we had a nice two bedroom cottage in the back of the camp overlooking a dry riverbed.
There was a walking trail around the camp which we walked in the late afternoons.
