The town of Bamberg has been inscribed on the World Heritage List concerning the protection of the world cultural and natural heritage in 1993.

Bamberg is an outstanding and representative example of an early medieval town in central Germany, both in its plan as well as its many well preseved ecclesiastical and secular buildings.

During its period of greatest prosperity, from the 12th century onwards, the architecture of Bamberg strongly influenced nothern Germany and Hungary.

In the late 18th century the town was the center of the Enlightment in southern Germany.

Our first beer stop in town. Pieter actually liked the stuff said it tasted like a stout. Kenn had no opinion.

Not a croissant, a Bamberger Hörnla!

Amazing cathedral. It has in it one of the only four Kaiser crypts in Germany. It also has the only Papal grave north of the Alps.

And the unknown guy on the horse dates from 1231 and is one of the most photographed statues in Germany. We did our part.

This is the Rose Garden at the New Residence of the bishop. This is not the old residence (now part of the church) or the current residence (further up the street). The building also now houses a museum.

The cathedral on the top of the hill used to be a cloister but is now a retirement community. The inside of the cathedral is being refurbished so we were not able to see it.

We sat outside at long tables with blue checkered table cloths. Nice lunch with our second beer to taste of the day.
